What a VIN finds that a booking number does not

A Grimaldi booking can carry fifteen cars. The booking number tells you where the booking is, which is fine until one of the fifteen is the one you care about and it is the one that did not load. The VIN is the only reference that belongs to a single vehicle the whole way through, from the yard at origin to discharge at destination, so it is the reference a lookup should be built on.

Enter it above and you get what is recorded against that unit: the load and discharge ports, the vessel and voyage carrying it, and the dates it was received, shipped and discharged. Commercial detail is not here. Rates, invoices, party names and documents need an account on the customer portal, which is the point of a public lookup rather than a gap in it.

When this lookup will not have your car

It reads Logisoft. If the forwarder, NVOCC or agent who booked your vehicle runs their operation on Logisoft, the unit is here. If they do not, it will not be, however real the shipment is and however correct the VIN. A blank result is not a statement about your car.

The other common reason is timing. A vehicle only appears once somebody has recorded it against a booking, so a car sold last week and not yet delivered to the origin terminal has nothing to show yet. And if the VIN was copied off a document by hand, check it before concluding anything. A VIN is exactly 17 characters and never contains the letters I, O or Q, so anything read as one of those is a 1 or a 0.

In either case your forwarder or the party who issued the booking holds the detail, and they can see the shipment whether or not this lookup can.

If you are the one booking Grimaldi

Forwarders and NVOCCs who book Grimaldi and ACL through Logisoft do not chase this status at all. The booking goes to the line from the same screen it was typed into, and the line's movements come back per car, so delivered, loaded and Bill of Lading printed each land on the unit record without anybody emailing an agent to ask.

That is what makes the lookup on this page work for their customers: the status is already on the shipment, so publishing it costs nothing and answers the call before it is made.
